We are currently looking for a

Art History and Technical Research Collaborator (m/f)

in the framework of the research project BeAM (Belgian Abstract Modernism in the Spotlight: technical art history research with a focus on synthetic organic pigments for improved dating and conservation) funded by BELSPO in close collaboration with the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA).

Position

This combined position is ideal for a professional equally passionate about art’s historical aspects and its technical examination. It offers the opportunity to contribute to the field of art history in a unique and significant way, providing a deeper and more nuanced understanding of Belgian Abstract Modernism through the integration of historical context and technical analysis.

Profile

  • You hold an advanced degree in Conservation Science and preferably Art History or a related field, with a focus on modern paintings.
  • You can demonstrate excellent study results.
  • You have strong analytical and research skills and can synthesize historical and technical data.
  • You can demonstrate experience in art-historical research; experience with archival research is considered a plus.
  • You can demonstrate expertise in material-technical research of modern paintings
  • You can demonstrate expertise in the interpretation of raking, UV, and IR photographs and MA-XRF distribution maps
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation.
  • You can speak and write English fluently; knowledge of Dutch and French is considered a plus.
  • You are an excellent communicator, both in academic writing and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Offer

  • Full-time contract (100%) of 3 years starting early 2024 (exact date to be defined). You will be recruited as a team responsible with the corresponding salary scale B1A within the PC329.01 a minimum (full-time) bruto EUR 3.862,19. Relevant work experience can be added under certain conditions.
  • Flexible working hours in a 38-hour week
  • Holiday allowance and end-of-year bonus
  • The employee will be entitled to meal vouchers for each day effectively worked. The nominal value of each meal voucher is €7. The vouchers will be issued monthly.
  • Place of employment: on-site in the FeliXart Museum or KIK-IRPA in Brussels, with some time spent at other locations, including archives and museums
  • Free commuting by public transport and the possibility of a bicycle allowance
